The AAFPRS was founded in 1964 as an autonomous professional society representing the specialty of facial plastic surgery. The mission of the AAFPRS is:
  • To promote the highest quality facial plastic surgery through education, dissemination of professional information, and the establishment of professional standards.
  • To achieve understanding and recognition of the specialty of facial plastic surgery by the medical profession, hospitals, and other medical care entities, legislative and regulatory bodies, and the public at large.
  • To define facial plastic surgery as a specialty that requires intensive training and competence, embodies high ethical standards, artistic ideals, commitment to humanitarian service, and a desire to enhance the quality of human life.
  • To serve as the public's information source on facial plastic surgery.
  • To assist members in the practice of facial plastic and reconstructive, guiding them in the delivery of high quality, cost-effective medicine and surgery.

The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery was founded in 1970 to promote excellence in the subspecialty of dermatologic surgery and to foster the highest standards of patient care.

The Society supports clinical and basic research, provides continuing education for its members, and sponsors public education programs related to cosmetic, therapeutic and reconstructive skin surgery, including skin cancer and rejuvenation of aging and sun-damaged skin.

With nearly 2,500 members, the ASDS is the largest subspecialty group in dermatology and represents the fastest growing segment of dermatologic practice. Dermatologic surgeons have developed and advanced many surgical procedures and techniques including Mohs Micrographic Surgery for skin cancer, laser treatment for birthmarks and skin resurfacing, dermabrasion, chemical peel, sclerotherapy vein treatment and tumescent liposuction.

The American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) was founded in 1969 to establish a qualified body of surgeons who have training and experience in this highly specialized field. The mission of this Society is to advance training, education, research, and the quality of clinical practice in the fields of aesthetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery specializing in the face, eyelids, orbits, and lacrimal system.
